South Africa’s Kevin Anderson has been bought to an end as he lost his quarter final match with Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.
Wawranka will now face countryman Roger Federer in the semis after the 34-ear-old ran over France’s Richard Gasquet.
29-year-old Anderson had hoped to become the first South African in the semi-finals in New York, since Johan Kriek in 1980 but just could not live with Wawrinka as the Swiss ran away with the game.
Anderson had beaten Wawrinka the last four times they played but he was horribly out of sorts on Wednesday, dropping serve in the seventh game of the first set and ninth of the second.
The third set was all over in 25 minutes with Anderson winning just five points.
