Croatia U17 defeated Nigeria U17 3-2 in the third game of the 2015 Suwon Continental Cup hosted in South Korea.A double from Josip Brekalo plus Davor Lovren’s strike handed the Europeans a hard earned win against the Eaglets who got their strikes courtesy Victor Osimhen and an own goal from the Croats.
Nigeria went a goal down in the first half after Brekalo converted a brilliant free kick outside the goal area. However, coach Amuneke’s side restored parity in the 61st minute after their opponent put the ball into their own net.
Osimhen put the Eaglets ahead in the 78th minute but Croatia leveled up from the penalty spot through Brekalo after he was fouled by Ejike Ikwu in the Nigerians’ penalty area with Lovren snatching a late winner for the Europeans.
Brazil were crowned champions after defeating hosts South Korea 2-0 as Croatia placed second while Nigeria settled for the Bronze medal.
The Eaglets face Croatia again in the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup in Chile at the Estadio Municipal Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso, Coquimbo, Both teams have been pooled in Group A alongside Chile and United States.
